Naming Contest for New Health Complex

The Cross Lake Band is holding a naming contest for the new Health Complex being built in the community. The name should reflect the history and culture of Cross Lake.

There is no age limit, and the winner will be chosen by a panel of community representatives. Multiple entries can be submitted. Please submit your suggestions for a name for the new Health Centre via e-mail to Cathy Merrick at camerrick@mymts.net<camerrick@mymts.net>

Architects Representative Job Description

  Cross Lake Health Complex Architect’s Representative Notification of Opportunity and Job Description LM Architectural Group is seeking a qualified individual that is a resident of the Cross Lake Community to act as Architect’s Representative during the construction of the new $42M Cross Lake Health Centre. The successful applicant will be contracted by LM Architectural Group for a term position, lasting for the duration of the construction of the facility, but not exceeding 4100 hours in total. We anticipate the term to commence immediately. The responsibilities of the successful candidate will focus on representing the interests of the Architect during the construction of the new facility, including reviewing and monitoring construction progress, reviewing materials and workmanship to confirm they are commensurate with the construction documents. The successful candidate will liaise with both Contractor and Consultant teams, and will provide on-site presence during the construction period. He or she will participate in the Administrative component of the work, including the review and processing of Proposed Changes, Change Orders, Site Instructions, and Certificates for Payment. The Architect’s Representative will monitor the construction progress against stated schedules and milestone dates, note schedule delays, monitor the General Contractor’s reports on incidents relating to health and safety, and provide bi-weekly written reports to the Architect. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the construction industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, means and methods, and construction contract requirements. The successful candidate will be attentive to detail, able to read/interpret architectural drawings, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Contract Services The successful applicant will: 1. Understand the responsibility of the architect. 2. Observe and Report on the progress of Construction: • Provide general observations on the General Contractor’s compliance with the contract documents and progress of the work. • Attend and participate in site reviews with architect/consultant(s) and contractor when architect/consultants are on site. • Participate in progress reviews of the work as scheduled with the Owner’s representatives, and report on same to the Architect. • Record through digital photographs general site conditions, areas of concerns that may arise, issues with workmanship, issues with storage of materials, or other noteworthy occurrences on site.  • Advise the Architect by telephone or email of any issues or comments of immediate concern with respect to site conditions, workmanship, material storage, and general safety of conditions. • Coordinate with the General Contractor when on site, and advise the Architect of any action items that require immediate attention. • At the end of each week provide written summary report of hours on site, the week’s activities and issues identified. Transfer of photos should occur weekly at a minimum, but daily if deemed urgent. 3. Have knowledge of contract specifications, drawings and shop drawings; review the General Contractor and Sub-Trades’ as-built drawings on site as construction progresses. Be able to understand drawings and specifications. 4. Have knowledge of general construction process, with specific knowledge or experience in any/all of the following considered an asset: • Concrete testing and finishing. • Placement of re-bar and formwork. • Structural framework. • Vapour barrier membrane inspection. • Tie-in details of vapour barrier membrane and penetrations. • Installation of insulation. • Review mechanical and electrical rough-ins. • Non load bearing walls, gypsum board installation and finishing. • Fire Separation and Firestopping requirements. • Finishing of gypsum board, flooring, painting, and finishing details 5. Assist the Architect in their duties as may be required. 6. Participate in normal building turn-over procedures up to the date of substantial completion. 7. Act as liaison between locally employed construction personnel, the Contractor/Trades, and Community Employment Placement/Human Resources personnel as required to facilitate lines of communication. APPLICATION AND COMPENSATION Interested, qualified applicants are urged to identify their interest and submit resumes to Michael Sagriff, LM Architectural Group, msagriff@lm-architects.com A short list of qualified applicants will be identified, following which an interview with each will be conducted. Details and location of interviews will be coordinated with Cooper Richard on behalf of the applicants and LM Architectural Group. The position assumes a 40 hours a week maximum. Compensation will start at $30 per hour, and will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The Site Representative is responsible:  1) To provide their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required to satisfy the site safety requirements as established by the General Contractor. 2) To provide their own means of transport to and from the site. 3) To provide their own camera and/or cell phone in order to take digital photographs. 4) As a contract position the proponent will be responsible for: • Filing taxes as applicable, • Contacting the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba to retain the appropriate coverage for their position (see https://www.wcb.mb.ca/personal-coverage-forbusiness-owners-0) Questions can be submitted to Michael Sagriff, Contract Administrator, LM Architectural Group at
